I don’t think English speakers have developed the necessary throat muscles to pronounce either of these words correctly, although I think I came close once when I almost choked on a cashew. I just thought it was funny that one letter made the difference for two words that seemed to have nothing to do with each other. I lived in the Netherlands for a few months and the only words I remember (besides the numbers 1 through 5 and thank you) are Slagboom (toll gate) and Slagroom (whipped cream). As guttural as German sounds, it has nothing on Dutch, which some Germans say is not actually a language but a throat disease. The German word for exit is Ausfahrt, which is funny for obvious reasons.Nothing says luxury like a name that sounds like it’s the skin disease capital of the world. The economy model was called the Trabant, which doesn’t sound that funny but the upscale model was called the Wartburg. In the old East Germany they made two models of cars. And it’s just funny because, as my daughter says, “it’s exactly how you would imagine the Germans would say rainbow.” The word they use to describe one of nature’s prettiest sights sounds like someone clearing their throat. But, there’s billions more people in the world speaking other languages. So, that means most of use the words cat, kitten, and meow, when it comes to our kitties. Regenbogen is the German word for rainbow. When including both native and non-native speakers, English is the most widely spoken language in the world. The State Department spokesman released a statement calling the launch “a troubling and provocative escalation that the United States takes seriously.” Or at least we would take seriously if the missiles weren’t called No-dong. Just a few days ago those crazy North Koreans launched a couple of missiles into the waters off the Korean peninsula. Everybody admits that the names of the Korean missiles are hysterical. It’s just that some foreign words are funny. Of course this doesn’t mean that English is a superior language and it doesn’t reflect negatively on the speakers of other languages (no matter how silly their little languages may sound). If you are a native English speaker like myself you will notice that there are some words in other languages that just sound funny. Step aerobics: Step aerobics is unique with its use of a platform (the step) and risers that can be adjusted for a participant’s intensity preference. This format is choreographed, but routines can be broken down and simplified to where the most novice participant feels comfortable. Instructors may incorporate moves from hip-hop, jazz, salsa, and kickboxing, along with classic floor aerobics moves. It combines both high- and lowimpact moves where the goal is to get you up and keep you moving. Hi-lo aerobics: This type of aerobic exercise has been around for many years and is considered the original group exercise format. This category includes long-time favorites such as step and hi-lo floor aerobics, and some more recent favorites such as kickboxing and indoor cycling. Classes generally begin with a light aerobic warm-up, some stretching, and then moderate- or vigorous-intensity exercise for the majority of the class. Take a look at some of the available options – and don’t be afraid to try something new!Ĭardiorespiratory: Classes under this category are most frequently associated with the group exercise format, and focus on getting the heart rate up for the duration of the class. Group exercise classes are designed to be both fun and challenging for the participant, with the added benefits of being taught by a fitness professional and being in a positive social environment. Advanced classes are not recommended for beginners. Advanced classes are for those who have been long-time participants and are looking for a challenge. If you are new to a format, just let the instructor know so that he or she can explain the class for you. If a class does not designate a level, intermediate is assumed. Beginner classes will break down the format and introduce a person to the terminology and basic moves of the class. Class offerings will vary between fitness facilities, but most classes will fall into one of the following four categories: cardiorespiratory, strength, mind/body, or specialty.Ĭlasses can be further described as beginner, intermediate or advanced. Physical Therapy in Burr Ridge & Hinsdale for ExerciseĬhoosing a group exercise class can be quite overwhelming these days, as class formats have developed and evolved tremendously over the years. Outside of the different control schemes and various other little settings you can mess with, you’re now able to change the key binds using any button on the controller. Players on PS4 and Xbox One are now able to customise each individual action in Battlefield 5 just like their PC friends have been able to for years. You can create custom key bindings on consoles Snipers can often be the easiest to spot, as their positions are sometimes given away by scope glint. This is admittedly harder to detect than muzzle flash, and it’s even more complicated thanks to the erratic ragdoll movements going on anywhere you look, but it can help. One other thing to keep an eye out for is movement. Suppressed enemies will also have a very noticeable icon over their heads for those paying attention, but these are not quite the classic doritos and can be hard to miss. The Recon’s spotting scope is the only gadget that can 3D spot in Battlefield 5, and its flare gun is able to spot enemies on the minimap within a limited radius after being fired, as it always has. Your teammates will always have icons over their heads, so you’ll instantly know if you’re aiming at a friend or foe. Use this to your advantage, and always focus on were the muzzle flash is coming from. You can’t hide muzzle flash with attachments in the game, either. Muzzle flash is much brighter now, and it's going to be the thing that'll help you spot enemies most of the time in Battlefield 5. This is going to make life easier for campers, but you’re not completely defenceless against them. Depending on the map and terrain, some uniforms blend in with the environment better than others. You can certainly use it to alert teammates to an enemy’s general direction, but that’s about it. The spotting button now places a contextual marker, similar to Rainbow Six Siege. If you're not attacked, you can safely assume the enemy doesn't know you're there. Firing your weapon won't automatically get you spotted on the minimap, and you won't be running around with an orange triangle over your head anytime someone glances at your general direction. For the first time in years, you're able to be stealthy but no less deadly. This is where you'll find a collection of some of the best tips we've gathered so far from playing, for both new players as well as veterans.īattlefield 5 has gotten rid of the famed 3D spotting, otherwise known as orange/red doritos. I also visited another two sites that Venkat recommended about 40-50 minutes to the South-east of Crown Valley: Thomas Road (33.545869, -116.85783) and Tule Creek near Aguanga ( 33.4629, -116.8274). I also saw a half a dozen owls, presumably a higher number than usual and something to do with all that food scurrying around. These latter two animals paused obligingly at the roadside but I wasn’t quick enough to get any pictures. I had another kilometre along the road to the North East (33.6467, -116.9964), and what I believe was also a Stephen’s Kangaroo Rat, a mile or so to the south west along Rawson Road (33.6379, -117.019). I saw one or possibly two animals at exactly the spot listed in Venkat’s report (33.6489, -117.0052 ). Venkat’s report includes a lot of detailed information, most of which I won’t repeat here.ĭuring a couple of hours driving the Crown Valley and Rawson Roads, through the Roy Shipley Multi-species Conservation Reserve, I saw at least three Stephen’s Kangaroo Rats, the only kangaroo rat species in the open grasslands and sage brush on the valley floor. The population explosion, coupled with a lot of help from Venkat (largely in real time) made for a very successful trip. Rodent numbers seem extraordinarily high in southern California right now, and I don’t think I have ever seen as many anywhere as I saw around my campsite by Joshua Tree, and that includes the Sanetti Plateau in Ethiopia and the NYC subway. From there I went to Lancaster, primarily to see Agile Kangaroo Rats. Venkat saw a bunch of species I wanted to see and so I largely followed in his footsteps, starting the trip in Hemet before heading to Joshua Tree National Park. Next thing I knew I was landing in Los Angeles for the Memorial Day long weekend in late May 2017. I was powerless to resist and booked a ticket a few days later. In early May I read Venkat Sankar’s report detailing a cornucopia of small mammals in southern California. I had to be physically restrained from taking a suitcase, spotlight and taxi to the airport.
